Prioritize Target Hours vs. Overtime

Summary:  You can adjust the Shift Agent scheduling filter to accommodate for your need to have certain employees work overtime with regularity.  (For example, you have an employee that you want to work 52 hours, even though your overtime threshold is 40 hours.) Monitor the allocation of hours to track your distribution to employees.  Access this feature from the company profile page.

In order to do this, you need to take a couple of steps to "isolate" the overtime ranking condition, and make Shift Agent disregard the part of the filter that pays attention to Overtime for employees with target hours higher than your OT threshold.

Step 1:  Set Target Hours Higher than Overtime Threshold for certain employees.

  • Navigate to an employee profile and set the target hours to the level you want (ex. 52hrs)

Step 2:  Select the proper setting for Penalize Target greater than Overtime.

  • YES (default):  Overtime Weighting filter is on.  Employees are ranked lower in the selection list if the shift would put them into overtime.
  • No:  Allows employees with target hours higher than the overtime threshold to remain higher on the selection list for shifts that would put them into overtime.   Other factors, (such as unavailability) will still affect their placement in the ranking for each shift.

 The Difference

The smart scheduler uses several conditions to determine the ranking of each employee with respect to filling each shift.  (Availability for the shift, overlapping shift, causes overtime, etc) Regular filter works this way:  Shift Agent will rank employees much lower in the range of selections for a particular shift if the shift would put them into overtime, regardless of their target hours. Adjusted filter works this way:  For any employee who's target hours is higher than the Overtime Threshold, you can make Shift Agent overlook the ranking condition that sorts employees based on Overtime and only pay attention to the other conditions (availability, overlapping, etc.)
